🧑‍⚖ Definition of Kafara: Kafara in fasting refers to compensating for willfully breaking a fast, especially by having sexual intercourse during Ramadan.

📖 Hadith Reference: The concept is detailed in Hadith (Sahih Muslim, Vol. 3, Hadith 1936), where a man confesses to breaking his fast by having intercourse and seeks guidance from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

💸 Kafara Options: Three main compensatory actions (kafara) are prescribed:

Free a slave

Fast for 60 consecutive days

Feed 60 poor people

🤔 Prophet’s Guidance: The Prophet initially asked the man if he could free a slave or fast for 60 days. After failing these options, the Prophet suggested feeding 60 poor people.

🏠 Feeding Family: When the man declared his family was the poorest, the Prophet allowed him to feed his family instead of others.

⏳ Timing for Compensation: The compensation (kafara) should be done before the next Ramadan.

🕌 Scholarly Opinion: Most scholars agree on the three options, but the preferred order is: free a slave, fast for 60 days, then feed 60 poor people if the first two aren't possible.

Subhanallah. When you mindful of Allah, Allah will create doors and open them for you from places you never expected. He probably couldn’t provide for his family and Allah sent mercy upon him. (Which is why I think the prophet smiled.) The sinner knew he couldn’t hide it from Allah. He searched for a way to repent.

And whoever is mindful of Allah, He will make a way out for them. (65:2)
