2. Surah Al-Anbiya (21:96-97)

This chapter refers to the time when Yajuj and Majuj will be unleashed as a sign of the drawing nearer Day of Judgment.

“Until, when Gog and Magog are let free [from their obstruction] and they swarm down from each hill.” (Quran 21:96)

In certain Islamic traditions, Yajuj and Majuj are said to be so numerous that they could drink an entire lake dry. Other Hadiths describe them as small-eyed, and broad-faced, with faces that take after flattened shields. 

From this, we can agree that their sheer numbers and distinct appearance add to the fear associated with their eventual release.

The Wall of Gog and Magog

One of the intriguing elements of the story of Yajuj and Majuj is the wall constructed by Dhul-Qarnayn to restrict them. This wall was built with layers of iron and molten copper and is said to be amazingly solid.

Reason for the Wall

The reason for the wall is to keep Yajuj and Majuj from wreaking ruin on the individuals living adjacent. It serves as a temporary barrier to protect humankind until the designated time when Allah wills the wall to break down, discharging Yajuj and Majuj into the world.

Speculations on Where the Wall Is

Researchers have speculated about the potential location of this wall. A few have speculated it to be the Great Wall of China, but there’s no conclusive proof.

The Quran does not mention the geographical location of Yajuj and Majuj,  which leaves it open to interpretation and debate.

The precise timing of the release of Yajuj and Majuj is obscure. It is one of the great mysteries in Islamic teachings. 

They are one of the major signs of the Day of Judgment and will show up after certain other signs, such as the coming of the Dajjal (the Antichrist) and the return of Prophet Isa.
