Islamic Months Memory Game – How to play (included in the download):

  1. Print the pages (for beginners, print pages 2-3, for intermediate learners, print pages 4-5, for more advanced learners, print pages 4-7). Laminating the pages will help keep the game in shape over time but is optional.
  2. Go over the names of the months with your child. Have your child repeat each name so they can start memorizing them.
  3. Cut the names of each month along the lines – Arabic and English names should be separate. If your child can use scissors, let them practice!
  4. For the beginner and intermediate games: the rules are the same as for a traditional memory game:
    – Shuffle all the cards and lay them face down in rows on a flat surface.
    – Players take turn flipping over two cards.
    – If the cards match, the player keeps them and plays another turn. Note: for beginners, the colors will help but make sure you read the names aloud each time. For intermediate players, let them read the names if they are able to.
    – If the cards don’t match, the player turns them face down again in the same place and it’s the next player’s turn.
    – Players try to remember where the cards are so they can make future matches.
    – When all the cards have been matched, players count their pairs and the player with the most pairs wins.
  5. For the advanced game: invite the player to organize the names of the months in the right order by placing them on the blank tables of pages 6-7, both in Arabic and in English.
