During the reign of Khedive Ismail, he asked a question: "Who will enter Paradise—Jews, Christians, or Muslims?"

The Khedive sent for Imam Muhammad Abduh, a Christian priest, and a Jewish rabbi to answer this question and to learn their views on the matter.

However, what happened was that Imam Muhammad Abduh responded to the question, and neither the rabbi nor the priest could reply after him.

His response was eloquent, insightful, and full of grace, which embarrassed both the rabbi and the priest in front of the Khedive and made him smile at the Imam’s wisdom and the truthfulness of his words. He said:

"If the Jews enter Paradise, then we will enter it with them, because we believe in their prophet Moses (peace be upon him).
If the Christians enter Paradise, then we will enter it with them, because we believe in their prophet Jesus (peace be upon him).
But if we (Muslims) enter Paradise, then we will enter it by the mercy of Allah.
None of the Jews or Christians will enter it with us, for they did not believe in our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)."

The rabbi and priest were left speechless by his response and left without making any further comment, as his words were more than adequate for the occasion.
