Trauma affects everyone in the region whether you are victim, perpetrator or bystander. Israel and Palestine are suffering from trauma that has been daily for over 70 years. Exposure to violence changes brain chemistry. It changes the way information is processed. It changes how thoughts are formulated and processed. It shuts down healthy emotional response and social emotions. It initiates sociopathic responses. Israel has created a horrific environment to raise its people. Those responses from Israeli soldiers that are cruel and disregarding are likely a response to hearing and knowing violence is perpetrated near and for them. They come into this with the motivation of the Holocaust. It is a shadow on everything. It is too far removed to be faced directly. Any training that was given to soldiers promoting methods of the perfect assassin as the standard, put extraordinary pressure on people to succeed by violence. People are aware that the nature of Israeli soldier responses is not healthy and is pathological. Israel has created a country of people who thrive on violence. If you take away the war, the violence will simply come on home to live. I would never live in Israel.
